how did he do that

“How the heck did he do that?!” 🤔

I think that’s what lots of people felt when they saw the 100k views on my first YouTube video (well, technically I posted a few super cringe gaming videos when I was a kid, does that count?)

The short answer: I spent 3 weeks learning and watching videos non-stop to learn to make good videos

BUT

I noticed that a LOT of YouTube is simply copywriting applied to video ✍️

How do you sell stuff online with a landing page? Simple:

  1. 🫨 Catch people’s attention with an ad

  2. 🧐 Then make them interested with a hero section that makes them feel this landing page is made FOR them and promises them something

  3. 😳 Then make them feel how their life could be with the product by showing them testimonials and/or what they could do with the product by positioning it as the way to fulfil the promise

  4. 🥳 Throw some “sprinkles” here and there to make sure it’s not boring: Images, videos, animations, or even emojis

  5. 🤩 Then, tell them they can get it today for the small price of $97

Now… How do you make a good YouTube video?

  1. 🫨 Catch people's attention with a catchy headline and thumbnail

  2. 🧐 Then make them interested with an intro that makes them feel they will get something out of the video (learnings, a story, etc)

  3. 😳 Then make them feel entertained by delivering what you promised in the intro

  4. 🥳 Throw some “sprinkles” here and there to make sure it’s not boring: Transitions, sound effects, animations, etc

  5. 🤩 Then, tell them they can get more by subscribing etc

See a pattern? I write my video using the same framework I use to write good landing pages.

  • 🫨 Catch people’s attention to send them to your content

  • 🧐 Promise your audience it’s for THEM

  • 😳 Make them feel something

  • 🥳 Make sure it’s not boring

  • 🤩 Show them how they can get more

That’s why copywriting is such an amazing skill!

It helps you not just sell, but communicate with others in the most efficient way possible!

So, if you want to tell stuff to people, whether to sell or entertain, remember this simple framework!
